About the course

SSI’s Manta & Ray Ecology diver course introduces you to the world of rays and mantas through clear, engaging lessons. You will explore what makes a ray a ray, how they differ from sharks, where they live, what they eat, and how to identify one species from another. The curriculum blends Manta Ecology and Ray Ecology topics with optional training dives.

Minimum age is 6 to enroll, and 10 if joining the optional scuba training dives. From southern stingrays resting on white sand to spotted eagle rays over coral and giant mantas reaching up to six meters across, you will learn how to observe these animals responsibly. This course is part of SSI’s Ecology Programs, alongside Marine Ecology, Shark Ecology, Sea Turtle Ecology, Fish Identification, and Coral Identification, which teach respectful underwater behavior and a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems.
